Canadian Parliament allowed to confiscate frozen Russian funds
This was reported by Ukrinform correspondent.
In order for these legislative changes to take effect, they have yet to be approved by the Governor-General of Canada, which is expected in the near future.
At present, Canada does not have a legal mechanism to seize sanctioned property and funds, so this bill should close this legal gap. The Canadian anti-Russian sanctions list is one of the longest in the world, it includes about 1,400 legal entities and individuals, all funds and property of which are frozen in the country.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal thanked the Parliament of Canada for passing a law that would allow confiscating frozen Russian assets and transferring them to Ukraine for recovery.
