Disinfo Chronicles: Detector Media experts published an analysis of the most recent Russian propaganda narratives.
Detector Media, a media-monitoring NGO, known as “the watchdog of Ukrainian media” released an analytical video in English, exploring Russian propagandist narratives, fakes, disinformations, and manipulations.
In particular, the authors break down the process of spreading Russian fakes, first being posted on Russian government-owned-or-affiliated media, then being amplified by "pundits", platformed by major Western media. The same is true vice versa: Russians are widely practising cherry-picking opinions and presenting them as proven facts.
Detector Media expert pinpoints how Russian “media” are violating journalistic standards, exposing several such cases and dismantling Russian narratives.

Russian command set a task to capture Bakhmut by the end of October
This was reported by Hanna Maliar, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, in an interview for the media platform “We are Ukraine.”
"For the fifth time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russians have set a deadline for their troops, before which they must completely reach the borders of the Donetsk region. They now have a plan that they must completely capture Bakhmut by the end of this month," Maliar said.
Currently, the enemy is on the outskirts of the city, and the AFU are using all their capabilities to prevent the enemy from advancing, Maliar said.
She added that in general, the situation varies in the east: there are areas where the AFU are advancing, but Bakhmut remains an epicenter of the heaviest fighting.

Russians use convicts to scout Ukrainian positions
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
During the interrogation by the SSU, one of the Russian POWs said that he has "fought" in Ukraine for two days. He arrived in Ukraine on September 21, 2022, and the next day he was captured.
"They use us as cannon fodder. Our commander sent us forward, at first we walked together, and then looked back - they were very far away. (we are used as - ed.) Ordinary cannon fodder: to know where the positions are, who stands where... We are like cannon fodder... When we were recruited, we were told a completely different story," the captive said.
According to him, they were personally recruited by the leader of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhyn. Prigozhyn said that they would fight side by side with "experienced" servicemen who would teach them everything, and they would not be on the front line.
The convicted were also promised that they would be able to "wash away their sins" with the blood of Ukrainians and receive "clean" documents.
Therefore, 267 out of 1200 convicts immediately agreed to "mobilization," but in a few days, the invader realized that "it's not like he thought it would be here," so the only way for them to survive is to surrender.

Russia attacks Ukraine with missiles launched by strategic bombers from the Rostov region
This was stated by Yurii Ihnat, the spokesman of the Air Force Command, on the air of the national telethon.
"Russia’s strategic aviation continues to shell Ukraine with X-101 and X-555 cruise missiles. But now they started attacking from Russia’s Rostov region, not from the Caspian Sea. Which is closer. This leaves us less time to react to the launch," Ihnat said.
Ihnat explained that while the missile flies from the Caspian Sea at a speed of 900 kilometers per hour, the Air Force can react faster. There is also more time for people to hide in shelters.
"Currently, Russia is attacking Ukraine from the Rostov region with Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers. They have 6 planes there, each of them can carry 8-12 missiles under its wings," emphasized Ihnat.

Ukrainian intelligence: Russia has made several orders for Iranian drones, the first batch includes 1750 units
The number of anti-aircraft defence systems supplied to Ukraine is not sufficient to completely eliminate the missile threat. Russia also ordered several batches of Iranian drones, which have recently been actively used against civilian infrastructure.
This was stated by Major General Kyrylo Budanov, the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, in an interview for Obozrevatel.
"The anti-aircraft defence systems that are supplied to us, their number is absolutely too small to completely remove the missile threat. However, our national defence industry is working to resolve this issue. Besides, we are looking for countries that can sell us anti-aircraft defence systems ... and some are being supplied to us," Budanov said.
Budanov noted that the fact of the Russian Federation's transition to the use of foreign drones is an extraordinary case for Russia. This was "facilitated" by the low accuracy of Russian missiles, as well as their small number. Russian defence industry cannot produce enough new missiles. Russia is already running out of those missiles with which it started the full-scale invasion, Budanov said. This figure has already fallen below a critical level for some kinds of weapons.
"I mean the level of 30% (of the used missiles - ed.). Therefore, they (Russians - ed.) were forced to look for some options to overcome the shortage of missiles. They came to the point that they began to use Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles. Can they replace missiles by their characteristics? No, they cannot, but we must assume that there are enough of them in Russia now, and the accuracy of UAVs is much higher than that of these missiles. This is what they are counting on," Budanov emphasized.
He noted that the first batch of drones ordered by Russia from Iran contained 1750 UAVs. This was followed by new orders, but it takes time to produce and deliver them to Russia. "They are gradually running out of them, Iranians are making new ones, but there is another side to this issue: we consistently shoot down about 70% of all drones," Budanov stressed.

Ukraine’s air defence destroys 85% of kamikaze drones launched by Russia
This was stated by Yurii Ihnat, the spokesman of the Air Force Command, on the air of the national telethon.
"Our air defence is destroying enemy drones better and better. Several weeks have passed since the enemy began using Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. The first one was shot down in Kupiansk while flying alone. Then they (Russians - ed.) started using drones in pairs, then in groups, in different directions, changing course to bypass our air defence... If you count in percentage terms, more than 85% of the ‘Shahed’ drones are being destroyed on the route," Ihnat said.
