Putin declared increased security mode in the territories bordering Ukraine and martial law in the annexed territories of Ukraine.
Putin declared martial law in the occupied part of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, along with the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”.
He stated this during the meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
“I signed the decree on the introduction of martial law in these four subjects of the Russian Federation. It will immediately be shared with the Federation Council for approval. The State Duma was also informed about the adopted decision,” he said.
Also, the “medium level of response” was introduced in occupied Crimea and regions bordering Ukraine – Krasnodar Krai, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, and Rostov regions.
According to the Russian legislation, this means that heads of these regions would “execute mobilization measures in the economic field, within the executive bodies of these subjects of the Russian Federation and local self-government bodies, certain measures of territorial defence, measures of civil defence, protection of the population and territories from emergencies of a natural and man-made nature, as well as the authority to implement measures to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations, bodies, and the needs of the population.”
The text of Putin’s corresponding decree notes that residents of the border regions can be “resettled”, as well as free movement through these territories could be restricted.
Also, a “high alert” regime is introduced in the regions of the Central Federal District and the Southern Federal District, with the exception of the border areas. In other regions – the “basic readiness” regime was announced.

Russians are equipping a military airfield on the border between Belarus and Ukraine
New satellite images reveal an increase in Russian equipment and troops at the Zyabrivka military airfield near the Belarusian border with Ukraine.
This was stated by Belarusian outlet of Radio Svoboda.
Reportedly, the military airfield "Zyabrivka" near Gomel has been significantly transforming over the last month. More Russian equipment and personnel have recently arrived.
"A week and a half ago, Russian military equipment and personnel arrived in Zyabrivka. Russians have been there since the spring, but in small numbers. As before, access to Zyabrivka is restricted. Russian troops are still there, but now there is more equipment and people" said a witness from Gomel district.
Satellite images show that sand embankments are being built in the northern part of the airfield. According to Radio Svoboda, similar mound-like constructions may be found, for example, in the military unit of the 1146th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, which is in charge of protecting the Belarusian Astravets NPP. There are radar stations installed on the embankments. They are used for target identification and missile guidance.
The satellite image taken on October 16 reveals an increase in the number of military trucks in the Zyabrivka airfield area, an expansion of the military camp's territory, and the deployment of S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. One may also notice a train that brought fuel in tanks.

The threat of the Russian armed forces resuming the offensive on the northern front is growing
The harsh rhetoric of Russia's and Belarus' military-political leadership is intensifying, accompanied by the deployment of the so-called allied state's regional troop grouping.
“The threat of a Russian military offensive on the northern front is growing. This time, the operation may be directed to the west of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border in order to cut the key logistics arteries supplying weapons and military equipment to Ukraine from partner countries,” stated Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Brigadier General Oleksii Hromov during a briefing at the Military Media Center.
According to him, measures on deployment of aviation and other units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Belarus are ongoing at the relevant airfields and other military infrastructure facilities, in particular those that are under the full control of the Russian army.
As part of the above, Belarus is taking measures to prepare for covert mobilization. At the same time, this country continues to make its land available for the launch of ballistic missiles and drones.
“Belarus has deployed Russian MiG-31 aircraft capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles at its airfields,” Brigadier General Hromov said.
According to him, the General Staff of the AFU is continually monitoring the situation on the country's northern border.
“The Ukrainian Defence Forces are currently taking steps to ensure reliable coverage of Ukraine's state border and the city of Kyiv from the north. If the enemy decides to open the so-called second front, namely, to conduct offensive actions from the Republic of Belarus, Ukraine will be ready for an adequate response,” Hromov highlighted.

Russia transferred troops and S-300 missile systems from Syria to Ukraine
The Russian Federation has reduced its military presence in Syria, relocating soldiers and military equipment to strengthen its forces in Ukraine.
The New York Times reported this, citing two senior Western diplomats and a senior Israeli defence official.
At the same time, they have different estimates of the number of withdrawn Russian troops - two of them stated it was two battalions, or between 1,200 and 1,600 soldiers, while the third source said the figure was much higher. However, all three agreed that Russian military deployment in Syria had been reduced.
According to all three sources, Russia has removed all S-300 anti-aircraft defence systems from Syria. Due to lack of ballistic and cruise missiles, Russians use such systems to attack ground targets in Ukraine. According to The New York Times' sources, the S-300 systems that Russia withdrew from Syria, were deployed to Ukraine.

British Intelligence: Russia appears to be preparing to withdraw from Kherson bridgehead, but it won't be easy
According to British intelligence, Russia's highest leadership is seriously considering withdrawing from the right-bank bridgehead in the Kherson region, but doing so will be difficult given the destroyed bridges.
This is stated in the review of the UK Ministry of Defence's on the war in Ukraine for October 20.
It recalls the recognition by Russian commander Sergey Surovikin's of the difficult situation for Russia in the Kherson region, as well as his statement regarding the need to evacuate the civilian population.
"As the overall operational commander, Surovikin's announcement highlighting negative news about the 'special military operation' is highly unusual. It likely indicates that the Russian authorities are seriously considering a major withdrawal of their forces from the area west of the Dnipro river," they note in the review
According to British intelligence, if Russia decides to withdraw, the primary problem for them will be transferring troops and equipment across the Dnipro to the left bank.

Russian special services are apparently planning terrorist attacks against their own citizens
Russian military enlistment offices distribute "memos" to local residents accusing Ukrainian special services of planning and carrying out terrorist acts against civilians.
According to the Ukraine's Defence Intelligence, "saboteurs" allegedly leave mined phones, wallets, and tablets on roads, benches, and in the bushes. And that even children's items can be mined in the same way.
"This "horror story" is a reflection of the ruscists' actual deeds in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. There were indeed a huge number of mined objects, household appliances, and children's toys left behind after the liberation, which resulted in injuries and even deaths of civilians," Ukrainian intelligence stressed.
Presumably, Russian special services are thus preparing the ground for provocations with further accusations against Ukraine.

Russian FSB agents who were "hunting" for Ukrainian Javelin positions were detained
The Security Service of Ukraine detained two Russian agents in the frontline areas in the east of Ukraine.
According to the SSU's press service, they were collecting intelligence on the places of temporary deployment and movement of the Defence Forces units on the territory of the Donetsk region, in particular in the Bakhmut direction.
One of the perpetraitors' primary duties was to pinpoint the locations of Ukrainian combat crews of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
The detainees are two residents of the Donetsk region, who were recruited by the FSB representatives following the start of the large-scale invasion.
The investigation revealed that the enemy accomplices contacted their Russian curators through a network of "liaisons" from the temporarily occupied territory of the region. They turned out to be the "1st Army Corps" occupiers. They forwarded the information obtained from the agents to a representative of the so-called Ministry of State Security and the head of intelligence of one of the groups of the "DNR" terrorist organization, who "reported" to the FSB. The offenders used closed electronic communication channels to cooperate, and the obtained intelligence was transmitted in the form of GPS coordinates along with a description of the object. Russia used the information received to plan missile and artillery attacks against the locations of the AFU units.
